Experts questioned

With the rise and use of sex dolls, the US financial channel CNBC has recently paid attention.

Reports say that views on the various medical benefits that sex dolls may bring to people are challenged.

For example, supporters claim that sex dolls provide a safe and physiotherapy method for men who have difficulty finding a sexual partner. Some people also believe that it can also reduce problems such as sex crimes.

They said these benefits include helping to treat male erectile dysfunction, reducing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, and preventing violent sexual behavior.

But some doctors believe that sex dolls can hardly provide any health benefits for humans.

 

Susan Bewley, a professor of women’s health at St. George’s University Hospital NHS (UK National Health Care System) Trust and King’s College London, published an article in the British Medical Journal analyzing the health effects of sex dolls.

The article said that there is no experimental evidence to show that this $30 billion artificial doll industry has substantial health benefits, especially in reducing sexual violence.

The article concluded that the use of sex dolls can even cause some people to have an illusion, causing them to become numb to real people and to characterize the consequences of sex.

Billy’s research report said, “Although many sex doll users can distinguish reality from fantasy, some users cannot. This will increase the risk of sexual assault and rape, whether it is for children or adults.”

At the same time, some manufacturers have begun to produce simulated children's sex dolls specifically for pedophiles.

In April, due to concerns that the sale of child sex dolls might cause sexual assault on children, Amazon had to quickly remove its related products.

It is reported that these advanced sex dolls are expensive, ranging from US$5,000 to US$15,000. They mainly target the male market, but it is believed that sex dolls made for women will be sold next year.

 

Scholar controversy

Professor Kathleen Richardson, an expert in robotics ethics at the University of Leicester, UK, also expressed concern about the rise of sex robots.

She said, "We live in a world that materializes sexual relationships through prostitution. People are used as tools, and sex dolls are just another step forward."

A few years ago, Professor Richardson also launched a campaign to ban sex robots, but she later concluded that "sex dolls are not a real problem", the problem lies in people's attitudes towards sex and interpersonal relationships.

She is not optimistic about the new type of artificial intelligence sex dolls. "If you think that adding artificial intelligence to sex dolls increases humanity, it is wrong. There are more artificial intelligences in my washing machine than sex dolls. Just having a face and a figure is not enough. Make the doll an adult."

However, Kate Devlin, a senior lecturer at Goethe Smith University in the United Kingdom, holds a different view.

She said, "From the current point of view, sex robots are indeed aimed at men, but the sex toy industry is still developing, and many new companies are developing sex toys aimed at women."

She believes that robots designed for private relationships will ultimately enhance, rather than destroy, relationships between people.

"Whenever there is a major technological change, there will always be people panic. People worry about the impact of new technology. But under normal circumstances, technology always brings people closer and closer."

But Witte, the author of "Future Sex", believes that people don't need sex robots at all.

Witte said that we all need a real man (or woman).

At the same time, she does not buy into the view that humans no longer need sex to produce offspring, because humans can satisfy their sexual needs through various modern technological means.

She said that it would be tragic if the future is really like this. She believes that sex is the driving force for everything. Many times people try to be repressive or don’t understand sex at all.

 

She said that people should praise sex. However, it is understandable as an alternative.

When talking about the future of sex, Witte said that if the old traditional system of men chasing women can be broken, it will be good for everyone. Because in this system, if you are a beautiful woman, everything is easy to handle, but if you are shy and don’t know what you need, it’s not fun.

Witte’s advice is that people need to try and explore sex. She said that as the population structure changes, people are less and less likely to get married.
